the write guy

BOOK NOTES

I’m the author of more than 25 books, and the editor of literally hundreds of others, many targeted at the children’s educational market. I cut my teeth doing tradeshow newspapers in the early ‘90s. Several years later, I helped launch JockBio.com, which became the #1 hub for sports biographies. I also contributed seven titles to the Watts Library series by Scholastic.

A big break came when I was introduced to an incredibly talented writer named Mark Stewart. We formed a prolific partnership that made us one of the country’s busiest writing teams. Among our best work was Hammering Hank: How the Media Made Henry Aaron, Long Ball: The Legend and Lore of the Home Run and the Team Spirit Series. We also collaborated on two other groundbreaking series, Second Nature and Great Debates.

In 2013, I incorporated as The Write Guy, and branched out to copywriting and web content. I love to turn a phrase on its head, and offer the unexpected. My diverse list of clients ranges from the cannabis brand Willie’s Reserve and Backpacker magazine to golf instructor Christina Ricci and the Blue and Gray Education Society. In 2021, I served as the editor for An Explorer’s Guide to America’s Revolutionary War, the most comprehensive guidebook ever produced on the topic, combining insightful travel tips with a full history of our country’s fight for freedom.

Over the past few years, I’ve happened upon another rewarding market: working with first-time authors. With the continued evolution of self-publishing, I’ve been able to connect with writers looking to bypass the pitfalls and frustration of traditional publishing methods and get their words in print exactly as they envision them. Former NFL star Major Wright is a perfect example. I collaborated with him from start to finish on his heartfelt memoir, Major Pain: Confessions of a Smash-Mouth Safety. He released the book in 2020 to rave reviews. I’m happy to provide samples of all my work upon request.
